This barn wasn't one of my regular photo subjects, but we passed it on our way to work every day and it slipped into an occasional photograph. This one, for instance . Unlike the McCargar barn, which appears to have been deliberately removed, this one has obviously just collapsed. Must have been quite something to see. The pole barn was built perhaps a decade ago. It's long because its main use is parking long trucks.

I love peonies, but long ago concluded that they are poorly engineered.

Another look at that abandoned house on Mount Hope Highway, south of Mulliken. The roof's back was broken by a falling tree, most of which now sits in front of the house. Somewhat amazingly, the house is in better condition than its outbuildings, none of which were disaster victims but all of which are missing major pieces.

Which will put an end to my annual shots of the collapsing structure. He plans to reuse some of the wood for a chicken coop. I'm sure I'll take pix.

I've shown you that shed once or twice (five times? I think so) over the years. I always figured I'd get back and take a better picture of that barn , which I pass two or three times weekly. That's not gonna happen, as they knocked the remnants down this week. Can't say I blame 'em, since it's an obviously hazardous place in what's become a residential neighborhood. But I'm sad to see it go. And I regret that I didn't get that picture; there was a fine one waiting to be captured.

Even less there than it first appears....

North of town, on Tupper Lake Road near Charlotte Highway. It collapsed over a decade ago, and most of the ruin's been cleared away. The thing is that this barn, one of the prettier ones nearby, looked (from the outside) like it was well maintained. Then one day it fell in. This is another view of the farmyard I photographed on November 29 . I don't remember ever seeing a silo knocked on its side quite like this; if they're not deliberately taken down they usually outlast everything else, or rot away from the top. ========== Purchased a shirt at Gander Mountain a year ago, then bought m'self breakfast. On my way home I took Eaton Highway out of Grand Ledge, something I'd not done in years. As I discussed in a comment under the November 29 photo , things had changed since my last venture down this road. Like the Sebewa trip a couple days before, this was a conscious scouting trip. One of the challenges facing a photo-a-day photographer is boredom. Shooting the same subject-- or even the same photo --every day is an option, of course, but most of us grow stale without some variety. I was seeking some new photographs, not just for this day but prospects for other days. I imagine I'll be discussing this right to the end of the year. ========== "We've straightened the creeks and call 'em drains." So I labelled my 366 Snaps photo. This is generally true hereabouts--the local stream's called "The Mulliken Drain"--but I need to confess that the drain in the photo goes by Freyer Creek. I've long wondered who decided to rationalize Eaton County's drainage system, when they did it, and how they funded it. Doubtless he was a county drain commissioner.
