A Celebration of Joan, on our Anniversary. We've been married for four years, but we've been a couple for a long time. Thought I post a few pictures. It's 1995, here; and we're in DC, about to explore the Smithsonian.

I sometimes call myself a "recovering railfan." The reason most of my rail photographs are old is that I stopped chasing trains in the early 1990s.

This Wisconsin Central SDL-39 was working around the Marquette-Negaunee-Ishpeming area during my 1990 vacation at Van Riper State Park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I saw it several times over the course of the week as I explored Marquette County The Soo Line slapped the ugly "Blackbeard" paint job on the locomotives it acquired with the bankrupt Milwaukee Road in the mid-80s, then passed this one along to WC when it spun off its Lake States Division trackage (approximately the earlier, original Wisconsin Central) a couple years later. Eventually 585 got a proper WC paint job . Photo scanned from a slide.

Photo taken from one of the BobLo steamers on 5/28/1990, during a Memorial Day river tour (Detroit to Port Huron and back) sponsored by the Marine Historical Society of Detroit. I've forgotten which steamer, unfortunately. We had tickets for one of the boats and somehow ended up on the other....
