Opened on August 14, 1936 with "China Clipper", the 1,521-seat Art deco-style Del Mar Theatre has served the college town of Santa Cruz, California for more than 75 years. After years of struggling through dollar nights and intermittent attendance, the Del Mar Theatre was sold in 1999 and closed. After an extensive renovation and restoration, the Del Mar Theatre reopened in February of 2002 as a locally owned, independent, 3-screen theater featuring a 500 seat grand auditorium, tasty local snacks, organic popcorn (with real butter!) beer and wine and weekly Midnight Movies.

In 1972, the late Hon Kwong Ip brought a sample of Hong Kong to Canada with his creation of Hon’s Wun-Tun House. Hon’s was the first of its kind to land in Vancouver’s Chinatown to serve authentic Hong Kong styled wun-tun noodles. Over the years, Hon’s wun-tun legend continues with a multitude of locations, forever changing the once small Hong Kong noodle shop into a wun-tun empire. With several Hon’s restaurants in Greater Vancouver and numerous prepared items available at some of Vancouver’s largest supermarkets, Hon’s is an experience not to be forgotten.

The Silver Dragon Cafe is the first thing you see when you enter Côte St. Paul. The neon sign has not worked for years. One blogger states that the food there actually is pretty good, and reasonably priced. "Strange little guy at the cash," he writes "and it is straight out of 1947, with toothless tattooed patrons at other tables...but if you can get past that, the egg rolls, chicken soo guy, fried race, coke … all for about $7… couldn’t beat it." (On the other hand, another blogger complains that the kitchen is filthy). A third blogger praises the "old-fashioned egg rolls. . .a hard to find treat" (but this review dates from 2005). At any rate, the restaurant is now for sale and the wonderful sign may soon be a thing of the past.
