The Firemen's Insurance Company began its operations in 1838. This building at 303 Seventh Street NW, was built in 1882 by R.J. Lauritz. The five-story corner octogonal tower, covered with a dome, exemplifies restrained Queen Anne detailing. It is adjoined to the east by the four-story Romanesque-style National Union Insurance Company building, with which it forms a coherent group.
