Tombelaine is a small island off the coast of Normandy which can be reached on foot at low tide (provided lots of precautions are taken before and during the trek). In 1666 the island's fortifications were destroyed to end the English habit of attacking France from there. It is now a bird reserve.

This wheel was used to haul things up the sides of the mount on the sledge-like gadget hanging on the wall. It appears to be 19th century in date.
