It is believed that this floor collapse was caused by post holes dug into the ground during the early stages of the Roman invasion of Britain. The post holes would have been dug for buildings in a military camp, about 45 AD, Fishbourne Roman Palace, near Chichester, UK, which dates from about 30 years after the invasion.

Mosaic floor - House of Dionysos, Delos

A 2100 year old Hellenistic Greek mosaic floor depicting the god Dionysos as a winged daimon riding on a tiger. In the House of Dionysos at Delos in the Cyclades Islands, Greece. It is believed that this is the floor of a 'pool' which, when filled with water, cooled and freshened the breeze blowing through the house. DNG from 2018 processed (fairly aggressively) in 2022 using Affinity Photo software.

Mosaic Ceiling, Normandy American Cemetery Chapel

In the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville sur Mer, Normandy. On the ceiling lies a mosaic by Leon Kroll. In this detail the allegorical figure of Marianne bestows a laurel wreath on the lifeless body of a young USA soldier who has fallen in the fight to liberate France.
