Part of the "Forza Napoli" wall in Castellammare di Stabia in Italy. A mural by Rata Virus. According to the 'Street Art Cities' website: 'Maradona, for Rata Virus, represents a symbol of revolution, understood positively, the power of change, and the redemption of one's social position. “Forza Napoli, this mural is dedicated to all the revolutionaries in the world. This work of art carved with a drill uses the ruins of archaeological cities destroyed by Vesuvios as a context, to portray the most beloved and important god of Naples (Maradona). Santa Maradona is the finished work of art consisting of two sculpted murals. "- Rata Virus Rata Virus, a Chilean street artist known for his particular technique of raving the wall surface. His works have great expressive power and are always linked to the spirit of the place. The artist prefers not to talk about himself, he just wants to say that he has generated a great love for Naples and identifies with the passion of this city together with the ancient cities such as Castellammare di Stabia and Pompeii.'

Salinae (= salt works) to the Roman conquerors, Saltwich to the Anglo Saxon conquerors, and Droitwich in more recent times, this town was important as a centre for salt production from the Iron Age, or possibly earlier. In the Domesday Book (1085 CE) the town was listed as producing 1000 tons of salt per annum and was regarded as more valuable than Worcester and Newcastle. The square shapes in this wooden sculpture reflect the cubic structure of salt grains when viewed closely.

At the Abbey of Heiligenkreuz, in the Vienna Woods. This Romanesque sculptured tombstone in the middle of the Chapterhouse is the grave of the last Babenberg Duke, Frederick the Quarrelsome; he died in 1246. The rosette-window was at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1889, where it won the first prize for its colours and their composition.

'Illegal' Medieval Art at Lacock Abbey

Certain carvings and wall paintings at Lacock Abbey became illegal under reforms introduced by King Henry 8th. Instead of being destroyed, some of them were bricked in behind a false wall. Part of that wall was recently removed to reveal the medieval carvings in excellent condition. In this picture, some of the paint from the old wall paintings can be seen. Lacock Abbey was the home of Henry Talbot, pioneer of photography.
