Aplectrum hyemale (Puttyroot orchid)

12 May 2021 64
Day trip to look for Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids in nearby, DuPont State Forest near Cedar Mountain, North Carolina. Although we were just a bit late for the best of the Large Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids, we did find a few that were still holding on. We had much better luck with the Small Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids. We also made a side trip for Aplectrum hyemale or Puttyroot orchid, and we found a few pretty good ones. Triphora trianthophora (Three-birds orchids) just…

05 Aug 2015 79
The last major wave of bloomig for this orchid species in the mountains of North Carolina and South Carolina. About 90% of the buds on these plants at Jones Gap State Park were opening when I got there at 9:00 am. Not as many pink ones as were at my favorite site in the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina yesterday, but the white ones were very nice. To read the trip report, please go to Jim's Blog .
