On Saturday, May 22, the day after my book signing in Wilmington, NC, I joined a few TNC staff at a fairly new TNC site in Pender County, NC. It is not open to the public because it is still a part of an active hunt club, but I was priviledged to join the group on the field trip. The name of the site is McLean Savannah, and it is host to a number of orchid species as well as many carnivorous plant species. For more about this field trip, visit Jim's Blog .

Just to prove that we found both Cleistes species blooming on the same day. Not only that -- they were growing only twenty feet apart!
