Day trip to look for Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids in nearby, DuPont State Forest near Cedar Mountain, North Carolina. Although we were just a bit late for the best of the Large Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids, we did find a few that were still holding on. We had much better luck with the Small Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids. We also made a side trip for Aplectrum hyemale or Puttyroot orchid, and we found a few pretty good ones. These images are the result of a very long day trip to the Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway in western North Carolina. I was joined by Walter Ezell and Steve Baker, a friend from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We found four orchid species (three of them in bloom) and a number of blooming Trillium species and hybrids, as well as some other very colorful Spring wildflowers.
