On Wednesday, I drove the short, 35 miles (56 km) to Nine Times, a Nature Conservancy site, for Spring ephemerals. As you can see, I found lots of Blood Root in full bloom. For the trip report, please go to Jim's Blog .

Walter and I made a day trip to Devil's Fork State Park in Pickens County, South Carolina. What I was hoping to find was early signs of Monotropsis odorata or Pigmy Pipes also known as Sweet Pinesap growing out of the ground but still under the leaf litter.
