Baptist Church House

29 Nov 2009 156
1901-03. Designed by Arthur Keen. Listed Grade II* . The Baptist Union moved out of this building in 1989. It's on the English Heritage at Risk Register and it seems that planning permission has been given for restoration and conversion to a hotel - as if there aren't already enough of these in Southampton Row!

Chalybeate Well, Hampstead

27 Apr 2011 211
Appropriately situated in Well Walk . The well commemorates the bequest by the Earl of Gainsborough, then an infant, through his mother The Hon Susanna Noel of six acres of land for the perpetual benefit of the poor of the Parish of Hampstead (see the inscription ). The water supplying this well is part of the groundwater of the River Fleet which also supplies Hampstead Ponds. Chalybeate water is high in iron content and its health-giving properties led to Hampstead's brief popularity as a spa in the early eighteenth century. Grade II listed
