St GB refixed

10 May 2011 174
I was dismayed the other day when I noticed they'd relaid this bit of the pavement in Marchmont St because I remembered this kerbstone parish boundary marker and I feared it had disappeared. I was relieved when I noticed that it had been refixed as part of the new paving. Why is it upside down you might ask. There was a car parked in the way of taking it from the other side and I wanted to show its position relative to the new pavement. Maybe I'll take one the right way up if there's nothing parked there another day when I'm passing.

Red Lion Court

There are a series of plaques at the entrances to the various Courts along the north side of Fleet St. Apologies for the poor quality of the photo. Must try to get a better one. It was a very bright day (really? did we have one?) and half the plaque was in shadow from the court entrance and the rest was brightly lit. I couldn't seem to get a good angle for an even light. That's my excuse anyway. The bottom part that is hard to read says: In 1816 William Caslon IV produced the first sans-serif printing type popularised by printers like R Taylor who worked in this court.
