Bloody pigeon netting! Commemorative plaque over Melton St entrance to former National Amalgamated Approved Society building. Dated 1906 indicating that the Euston Rd section is a later extension. In fact, since the NAAS wasn't formed until 1912 this can't originally have been their building at all. Now I'm finding myself becoming fascinated by the history of a building that I don't even really like...

Chained shut

Melton St entrance to former National Amalgamated Approved Society building. I have no idea what this building is currently used for and now from looking at the way this and the gate at the Euston Rd entrance are chanied and padlocked shut I'm beginning to wonder whether it is currently empty. Another bit of unused prime real estate?

What is the correct architectural term for this type of entrance decoration?

(Apologies for the distracting shadow.) The National Amalgamated Approved Society, 30 Euston Square, a joint venture by a number of assurance societies, was founded in 1912 and ceased to exist in 1948. (Source: Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section ) This is the large buiding on the corner of Euston Rd and Melton St. I'm not sure what it's used for now, probably offices of some sort. Rather ugly, imo, although it does have some interesting details.
