Appropriately situated in Well Walk . The well commemorates the bequest by the Earl of Gainsborough, then an infant, through his mother The Hon Susanna Noel of six acres of land for the perpetual benefit of the poor of the Parish of Hampstead (see the inscription ). The water supplying this well is part of the groundwater of the River Fleet which also supplies Hampstead Ponds. Chalybeate water is high in iron content and its health-giving properties led to Hampstead's brief popularity as a spa in the early eighteenth century. Grade II listed
