Mountain Lake

Mountain Lake was a hot spot in the early years (1800's) for tourists to go to get away from the hubub of civilized life. There used to be a spa type resort on the banks of the lake. When I was young, my mom and I used to ride the horses up here, and I remember the last of the old buildings still standing; a barn with three sides still up and a roof. In the 70's a band of rogue hippies claimed the area and most of the buildings didn't survive the onslaught. Today there are cellar holes, but not much else.

Bear! I found you!

"Bear" Hanson is a local legend. It's said that he lived in a cave somewhere on or near Moose Mountain. Apparently he'd found the cave, crawled in to get warm, and soon felt the paw of a great bear reaching in for him. He supposedly killed the bear and claimed the cave, where he lived as a recluse for years. Eventually he came down from the mountain and joined civilization, but the nickname Bear stayed with him for life.

The Little Depot

Our neighbor has a wonderful miniature train, track, and depot on his property. When I was a kid, it actually ran.
