It's been a good winter for the local deer - no prominent ribs or hips means they've fed well this winter. They'll be a sight when they start shedding their winter coats, though. Photo taken through double window panes, so not the greatest.

Another garden that needed cat-proofing...this had better work!

An attempt to cat-proof my new raised bed garden by using old sections of fence I had made from grade stakes.

The back yard garden hasn't been that spectacular this year. Lots of color, but so many weeds and it desperately needs a good thinning. Still waiting for my tennis elbow to go away so I can get in there and work.

a welcomed distraction

Halfway through summer it began to be evident that we were seriously lacking rainfall. Unfortunately, most of the summer was hot and dry, and the results were disastrous for many big farms around New England.

My first yard project of the year! I couldn't seem to lay the bricks in a straight line, so I went with a wavy border. I like it.

A Visit With the Dead Leavitts This is the Leavitt family cemetery, which is pretty much in my back yard. Nice backdrop, huh? I love them, they're great neighbors. Very quiet. ;)

Giving the back yard some recognition. Way to hold the snow, there!

Because every home needs a white picket fence, right? Yegads, what a chore! New Hampshire is basically made up of rocks, so digging post holes is no easy chore. Digging 7 holes and putting up five fence panels and one gate took me almost 9 hours. And I ran out of fence, bah!

Three more panels should finish it. I had to leave the garden cart where it sets, as it's marking the entrance to an underground yellow jacket nest. I can't believe I didn't get stung!

just in time

Finished the mowing just as the rain started to fall - excellent timing! Now on to replanting those awful window boxes. My herbs did not fare well over the winter.
