I saw this raccoon trying to cross the roadway in the afternoon. Odd, because normally they prefer the cover of night. When I pulled over to get some shots of him retreating into the woods, I saw the reason for the unusual daytime sighting - the poor thing has a mouth full of porcupine quills. My guess is he's very hungry and came across a dead porcupine and attempted to eat it. Unfortunately, this raccoon has probably learned a fatal lesson.
