Phase one of my latest project, another raised bed garden.

The new incarnation of my fence is going to be beefy compared to the old one. I've gone from 6 foot, 3.5 inch round posts to 8 foot, 4 inch square pressure treated timbers.

Gotta love digging in New Hampshire. I swear, this land is 80% rocks, 15% ledge, and 5% pleasantly diggable materials.

Hard part's done! A mud free walkway, a little side square patio for my electric grill, and I'm in business. I just need to put some fill and grass seed around the edges and I'll be happy.

Another day, another project! No more mud issues at the back door.

The new grass is coming in nicely behind the final incarnation of my retaining wall.

Mid-December and still no snow and not a good, hard, killing frost yet. I have actually had to mow this new patch of lawn I seeded a few months ago. I should be shoveling snow, not mowing grass!

I had two contractors tell me I needed a backhoe to dig up the old hydrant and knowledgeable men to fit the pipes. Never tell a stubborn New England born woman they won't be able to accomplish a task without machinery and men. Did it myself with hand tools and determination.

On my to-do list was replacing the worn out water hydrant at the barn. Trying to hold a seven foot tall hydrant steady hanging upside down into a four and a half foot deep hole isn't exactly easy. Thank heavens for inborn Yankee ingenuity.

I've taken the wall apart and rebuilt the top half three times, and I'm still not happy with it. The step is set and I've added fill behind the wall, but I'm not sure it's right. The cats are no help in deciding.

My latest project - a little water garden. This is a 30 gallon water tank I had purchased for the mules and discovered they preferred to play in it rather than drink from it. I don't need them slipping and breaking a leg, so instead of getting rid of it, I decided to add it to the back yard garden.

My next project - remove the lilac bush from the corner and build a small retaining wall in its place.
