Morning Moon and Planets

Shot on auto mode since I'm still learning how to set functions on the new camera. Jan. 7: This evening, look low toward the east-northeast horizon around 8 p.m. for the waning gibbous moon and about 6 degrees to its left you'll see Jupiter. Now nearing its Feb. 6 opposition, the solar system’s biggest planet rises in early evening during January — about 90 minutes after twilight's end on New Year's Day, and in bright twilight by late in the month. Jupiter is big and bright, blazing at magnitude minus 2.5 and not far from the Sickle of Leo. It's high enough for superb telescopic views by late evening, but many details may already be visible on its busy face before then. 45th anniversary of the Earth rise photos www.youtube.com/embed/dE-vOscpiNc

I decided to walk down to Yats for supper Saturday night. This mural was across the street from the restaurant. www.yatscajuncreole.com

Central Avenue is four lanes wide with three traffic lanes and one parking lane. Down to one lane tonight. And it's a pretty rare thing when I can stand in the middle of the street and take photos ... without getting run over! :-)

On a Sunny Day

14 Mar 2012 200
We finally got some sunny days here and I went down and shot one of the new murals. “Dimensional Shadows,” by Eduardo Mendieta of West Palm Beach, Florida, was part of the 46 murals for Super Bowl XLVI. Inspried by Lalique crystals, Mendieta’s mural depicts a woman emerging from water. The image is symbolic of breaking planes in our daily life: planes found in work, in relationships and in life. A representation of the importance of self-empowerment, “Dimensional Shadows” is a breathtaking sight on Mass Ave.

The great March weather brought a couple of real beauties out of their winter slumber.
