I've had this camera for about a month. When I bought it off eBay, the seller said it didn't work. I was hoping it was just the notorious "bad capacitor" issue, but it wasn't. It really is broken. But, I mainly bought it for the lens. When I received the camera in the mail - however - the lens was full of fungus or haze, which the seller didn't happen to mention. The seller didn't want to make it good, so I guess I'm stuck with a parts camera. Fortunately, I have two others just like this, if I ever need a part. Caveat emptor.

I got home today and there was a package waiting by my door. It was a Kalimar KX 5000 camera I bought from KEH Camera and it's like new! Actually, I think it is new. It's the complete kit except for the lens. I think it was only opened, the lens was removed and it was put back in the plastic bag. The kit featured the original box, a leather case, new batteries, a body cap and a neck strap, plus the camera body. It is somewhat of a clone of the Minolta X-300s/X-370n. I think the styling looks better than the Minoltas. Originally, it came with the lens pictured, but this is the lens from my other KX 5000, just for the beauty shot. And when I unboxed it, I got to studying it and learned something about the camera I hadn't known. I also have a Kalimar KX 7000 and wondered what the difference was between the KX 5000 and the KX 7000. Now I know. The KX 5000 is all manual, while the KX 7000 has an automatic aperture-preferred setting in addition to full manual. I had never used the automatic setting on my original KX 5000, of course if I had tried to, I would have found it that it didn't have one. 99.9% of the time, I use my cameras on manual. Especially all my Minolta SLRs and the Chinese-made clones. Taken with my Sony Alpha SLT-a77v on August 3rd, 2021.

This is the Atheneum, a visitor center located in historic New Harmony, Indiana. It was named for the Greek Athenaion, which was a temple dedicated to Athena in ancient Greece. It opened on October 10th, 1979 and was designed by noted architect Richard Meier. It won the Progressive Architecture Award that year, the American Institute of Architects Honor award in 1982, and in 2008 it won AIA’s prestigious Twenty-Five Year award, given to no more than one building per year. These cameras are essentially all the same camera - a Minolta X-300/X-370, introduced in 1984. It was released in different markets around the world with different names; it was updated with slightly different features and styling; and then Minolta moved production from Japan to a Chinese factory, which made Seagull cameras for the Chinese market, and Seagull obtained a license to make copies of it. Which they did and used a variety of different names for their clones. And their website still lists this camera as being for sale, so it's still being made after almost 40 years! This Kalimar KX 7000 is a fully-licensed clone of the Minolta X-300x/X-370n, but with one difference. While the upper body incorporates the rounded updated styling, the lower body keeps the styling of the Minolta X-300/X-370. That makes this a sort of Frankenstein camera which Minolta never actually made. I actually prefer how it feels in my hands better than the Minolta X-300s/X-370n version.

I don't know what all these things on this pole mean, but they sure are interesting. The film was expired, but to my eyes, it looks like it turned out all right. I'm totally colorblind, so I'm never really sure how my color film shots turn out. I click and hope.
