This is the grain of my mahogany wood Washburn bass guitar. For the Saturday Self-Challenge group, who's theme this week was textures in black and white.

My newest guitar, a Washburn bass guitar I picked up like-new at a nearby pawn shop. You can find some good deals at hock shops.
Grain Is Good

Finished stripping the paint of my project bass guitar yesterday and the grain of the wood really shows. I did some further sanding on it after this photo and the stripes don't show so much. I think whoever owned it before me just put two strips of tape along it and stained it the color you see here around it. When I restaing it with a dark cherry stain, I think it will hide the stripes and make the color even.
I also did a little more work on the front of the guitar and it matches the back now - it looked like it had a coat of primer on it and the last remaining spots of it have been removed as well.

I started stripping the old paint off my Fender Jazz bass copy project today. Here's what it looked like after I had finished with the front. Tomorrow, the back and then I'll clean it up and remove the last little traces of paint that show here and there.
Bass Guitar Parts

I went to Guitar Center on Wednesday and picked up some more parts for my bass guitar project. These are volume control potentiometers, tone control potentiometers, a capacitor for the tone control circuit, and new jack, a 3-way pickup selector switch and new knurled metal knobs, two for volume and two for tone. These are heavy duty and should
Bass Guitar Pickups

I found some new Fender bass guitar pickups online and they came in the mail today and yesterday. The bottom two are for a Fender Precision bass and the top for a Fender Jazz bass. I'm customizing my project and making it sort of a cross between the sound of a Fender Precision and Jazz bass guitar.
Univox Coily Bass Guitar

This is my Univox Coily bass guitar, a copy of an Epiphone Casino. The Beatles played Epiphone Casino guitars, so their popularity was why these copys were made. I found mine in a music store and it came just like this, body only and no parts. But, I picked it up for only $25 and it's in really great shape for a guitar made around 1970 or so.
I plan on restoring it someday soon. I'm keeping my eyes open for parts to become available on online auction sites, but haven't found what I'm looking for yet.

I posted a shot of this bass guitar the other day and that was how it looked when I first got it. This is what that Fender Jazz clone bass guitar looks like now. I want to strip it down to bare wood and see what it looks like and then refinish it again. Maybe even go with a natural wood look, depending on the grain I find under the paint. I'll probably buy new hardware as well and it should sound even better than it did with the cheap pickups it came with.
If you look carefully, you'll note that there's no nut on this guitar. I think I used it to fix a friend's bass and therefore mine doesn't have one currently. But, that's something I bought at the music store yesterday - a new blank nut. I'll measure it and cut it fit so that it will at least be playable. I'd like to check the action on the neck and see what it's like.
First Act ME105 Bass Guitar

I picked up this used First Act bass guitar yesterday at the music store when I went in to buy some bass strings. It's suprisingly well-made and solid, considering I only paid $30 for it.
When I got it, it had stickers all over it, which I carefully removed and cleaned up, then I changed the volume knobs to something I thought looked a little better. Top it off with brand new Ernie Ball bass strings and it sounds and performs pretty good!
Univox

This is the headstock logo of a 1960's-era bass guitar I have. I believe Univox called it a "Coily" Bass, but it was a copy of a Gibson ES335 hollowbody electric guitar. My bass is a sunburst color, as seen below in the picture with my Marshall amp.
Taken on January 4th, 2015.
