Grain Is Good

09 Feb 2015 284
Finished stripping the paint of my project bass guitar yesterday and the grain of the wood really shows. I did some further sanding on it after this photo and the stripes don't show so much. I think whoever owned it before me just put two strips of tape along it and stained it the color you see here around it. When I restaing it with a dark cherry stain, I think it will hide the stripes and make the color even. I also did a little more work on the front of the guitar and it matches the back now - it looked like it had a coat of primer on it and the last remaining spots of it have been removed as well.

Finished Picnic Table

19 Jun 2014 1 3 341
In high school shop class, this would have been around 1978, we all made a picnic table frame out of heavy steel pipes. Mine never got finished, that is painted and wood mounted for the top and the seats and it sat around doing nothing. Through the years, one of the legs came off. So, Monday, June 16th, 2014, I dug it out and re-welded the leg back on. Then I cut some boards for the top and seats and mounted the ones for the top. I didn't have carriage bolts long enough for the seats, so Tuesday I had to go to the lumber company and buy some. Also on Tuesday, I wirebrushed the metal all down and painted it with a gloss black rust inhibiting paint. Then I mounted the seats. Yesterday, Wednesday, June 18th, 2014, I used some Minwax to stain and coat the wood so that it would be protected against the weather. Here it is in it's finished state. It weighs a ton and the boards are two inches thick - it ought to last a long time.
