Cornfields

Here in Southern Illinois, we have a lot of rolling plains. So naturally, there's a lot of corn planted in these parts. Here is one vast cornfield in the Sacramento area. In the distance you can see farm buildings which dot the landscape everywhere. There are a few hills here and there, but no real mountains until you go a little further south from here.

Billboard
31 Jan 2015 |

I'm not a patron of McDonald's, but Sunday morning as I was driving all over creation getting shots for the One Rokkor Around The World project, this billboard caught my eye. Those burgers did look pretty tasty! This sign was right outside the fence of the White County Fairgrounds, where they held a very nice fireworks display in honor of Indepence Day later that night. (Which I attended.)

Horse
22 Aug 2014 |

At first, this horse was kind of standoffish. But, after a while, he came up to see what I was doing. He would smell my hand but wouldn't let me pet him. There were two here, but this one was the most curious. Forget about trying to photograph horses in their regular surroundings - they're too nosy about what you're doing there to catch them in a natural pose!

When The Lights Go Down
08 Jun 2014 |

This is just a timed exposure with my camera set on "B" (bulb). I was using my old Windsor, a true Diana-clone 120 camera. I had only used it once before, so it finally dawned on me that I hadn't used the bulb setting yet.
For The Sunday Challenge group, who's theme this week was to use a setting on your camera you hadn't used before. I chose the "B" (bulb) setting on an old Diana-clone 120 camera, which, as I mentioned, had never used before on this particular camera.
Camera: Windsor (Diana-clone)
Film: Fuji Film Neopan Acros 100 ISO 120 film
Aperture: F/19
Shutter Speed: "B" (bulb) 30 secs.

Solar Power

This is one of those solar garden lights that draw off sunshine during the day and then turn on to glow at night. Of course, they're not this bright, but a long exposure like this when it's dark outside will make them look much stronger than they really are. It's positioned right at the bottom of the front steps to my house.
For The Sunday Challenge group, who's theme this week was to use a setting on your camera you hadn't used before. I chose the "B" (bulb) setting, which I had never used before, on an old Diana-clone 120 camera. In fact, I'd only ever run one roll of film through the camera and had been meaning to use it again for some time.
For those that don't know about the classic "Diana" camera - they were really really cheap plastic cameras made in Hong Kong in the 1960's and given away as prizes or sold for about .50 cents. That's right - they are super cheap and if you drop one, they might break into a thousand pieces because the plastic is so thin. As a matter of fact, I think mine melted a little on the front because it was kept in a hot car. If you look at mine in the picture below, the melted spot is just above the lens and under the viewfinder.
Camera: Windsor (Diana-clone)
Film: Fuji Film Neopan Acros 100 ISO 120 film
Aperture: F/11
Shutter Speed: "B" (bulb) 10 minute exposure

Abandoned Gas Station Restrooms
12 Aug 2013 |
|
First images with my Windsor 120 camera. This is one of the gas stations we used to have in my hometown, long since abandoned. You don't want to use these restrooms!
Camera: Windsor 120 camera (Diana clone)
Film: Fuji Acros Neopan 100, 100 ISO black and white film
Aperture: F/11 (the "cloud" symbol)
Shutter speed: 1/50 sec. (approximately)
Focus range: 12 feet to infinity
Date: February 21st, 2010
Location: Norris City, Illinois, U.S.A.
Developed with chemicals at 68 degrees:
Kodak D-76 developer: 9 mins.
Ilford Ilfostop stop bath: 1 min.
Kodak fixer: 8 mins.
Kodak Photo-Flo 200: 1 min.
This was my first roll of 120 I ever shot or developed. I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out. If only the camera lens was a little better, although this shot was one of more sharper images. And not only that, what you see in the viewfinder is not what the camera ends up taking a picture of. It tends to chop off about a fifth of the top of the image and a little on the left, so image this shot if the building was down about a fifth in the frame and a tiny bit to the right. That's how I saw it.
Fire Hydrant Across From The Post Office
12 Aug 2013 |
|
First images with my Windsor 120 camera. This hydrant sits across from the Post Office and used to be in front of another gas station we used to have. All that remains of this one is the concrete island where the pumps sat. There is a slight light leak with this camera and it shows at the very top in the middle of the images. It was more pronounced in some over the others because I started when the sun was bright, then it started going down and it didn't cause the leak to show so much.

The Old Shed Across The Street
12 Aug 2013 |

You might recognize this old shed - I've photographed it many times and a couple previous shots of it can be found here on my Flickr page. It's another shot from the first roll of Fuji Neopan 100 film I ran through my Windsor 120 camera.
