This is what the mahogany wood looks like on my Washburn XB100 bass guitar.

Grain Is Good

Finished stripping the paint of my project bass guitar yesterday and the grain of the wood really shows. I did some further sanding on it after this photo and the stripes don't show so much. I think whoever owned it before me just put two strips of tape along it and stained it the color you see here around it. When I restaing it with a dark cherry stain, I think it will hide the stripes and make the color even. I also did a little more work on the front of the guitar and it matches the back now - it looked like it had a coat of primer on it and the last remaining spots of it have been removed as well.

Fender Jazz Bass Guitar Copy

I posted a shot of this bass guitar the other day and that was how it looked when I first got it. This is what that Fender Jazz clone bass guitar looks like now. I want to strip it down to bare wood and see what it looks like and then refinish it again. Maybe even go with a natural wood look, depending on the grain I find under the paint. I'll probably buy new hardware as well and it should sound even better than it did with the cheap pickups it came with. If you look carefully, you'll note that there's no nut on this guitar. I think I used it to fix a friend's bass and therefore mine doesn't have one currently. But, that's something I bought at the music store yesterday - a new blank nut. I'll measure it and cut it fit so that it will at least be playable. I'd like to check the action on the neck and see what it's like.

First Act ME105 Bass Guitar

I picked up this used First Act bass guitar yesterday at the music store when I went in to buy some bass strings. It's suprisingly well-made and solid, considering I only paid $30 for it. When I got it, it had stickers all over it, which I carefully removed and cleaned up, then I changed the volume knobs to something I thought looked a little better. Top it off with brand new Ernie Ball bass strings and it sounds and performs pretty good!
