A fishing village built at the head of an inlet of Loch Fyne called East Loch Tarbert, on a narrow isthmus which connects Kintyre to the south with Knapdale to the north,
It is known as the gateway to Kintyre!

Yachts moored in the basin at the western end of the Crinan Canal with the first canal lock on the left of the image!
The 9-mile-long canal links the Sound of Jura to Loch Gilp for access to the Clyde Estuary thus avoiding the long trek around Kintyre especially the exposed Mull of Kintyre !
A part of the 35 acre Crinan wood forms the backdrop

Ripples as the lock gates to the canal are opened to allow a vessel into the Crinan Canal Basin,
The ship DUKE OF NORMANDY II was built in 1934 for the German Customs service and was originally called 'Ems' after a varied history she was sold in 1975 to the British Waterways Board where she was used on the Caledonian Canal to tow the gate-lifter barge around.
She is now on the National Historic ships list,
