The dip meter after repair, reassembly and testing. The coils for each band are stored in a drawer which clips in at the base. A crystal earphone is also there as the dipper can also be used a fairly deaf crystal set to test that a transmitter is transmitting on the tuned frequency. May 2014.

The dip meter had an intermittent fault so I disassembled it to do repairs. I found that the battery leads were badly corroded inside the insulation. This wasn't visible until I cut the battery lead. This photo was taken with the new battery lead soldered in just before reassembly. May 2014.

I bought this soon after getting my licence in the mid 80s. The dip meter had an intermittent fault so I disassembled it to do repairs. I found that the battery leads were badly corroded inside the insulation. This wasn't visible until I cut the battery lead. This photo was taken with the new battery lead soldered in just before reassembly. May 2014.

The cover off the counter to plan modifications to run from 12v car battery etc. It surprised me that the power transformer was centre tapped to earth and each side feeding a single diode ala valve rectifier ccts of old.
