A public telephone cabinet at a suburban shopping centre in Toowoomba. The location is close to where the post office was. Postal services are now provided from an agency in the newsagent shop. The red 'Post' advertisement can be seen in the background. The opposite view www.ipernity.com/doc/grahamh/31344639/in/group/873405 The advertisement on the phone box is for the National Broadband Network, originally planned as a fibre-based IP network to replace the switched telephone network. The small-minded visionless govt voted in in 2013 has gutted this plan choosing to continue using copper cable to deliver the service to existing premises. Toowoomba is in the fortunate position of being part of the initial rollout so most people in town have got / will get fibre and some rural areas around the city are served by a dedicated wireless service.
