I travelled from Orange to Wellington as a sample test of the designed coverage to validate the design. I used a mobile radio testset receiving via a skate antenna on a groundplane above the roof (see note). Here the hirail vehicle is at a base station coverage boundary while waiting for the next base to be turned on. October 1993.

North of Orange. The hirail Toyota waiting for the test transmitter to be set up while testing from newly consructed sites using a test transmitter moved from site to site. This was done to check that the signal strength predictions were achieved. Measured signal was all a little better than predicted.
