A workshop replaced the faulty alternator in our car on a Saturday morning in a town 400km from home. We were grateful for this. However they dropped a bolt where it eventually, about a year later, caused the radiator to fail. I had noticed the water level drop slightly for some months before it increased to where it was obvious. I had to buy and fit a replacement radiator. September 2016.

Separating the components required me to devise a restraining mount for the assembly while I knocked out a pin which held it all together.
I found that the high voltage coil had a leakage resistance to earth, that the ignitor module was faulty and observed that the tape protecting the windings on the pickup coil had mostly rotted away. All three were replaced and the motor worked again. September 2016.

The ignition system failed on my 1988 Nissan Pulsar. I removed the sparking parts from the motor. The green paint marks the relative position of components. September 2016.
