I needed a longer VGA cable so I took two leads from old CRT monitors and worked out how they needed to be joined. I then soldered the wires insulating each joint with heatshrink sleeving. A larger diameter sleeve was put over the joints and then for additional protection was wrapped in a tape usually used for sealing antenna cable connections on radio towers. A loop was made and the same tape secured it to prevent straining the soldered joints. June 2017.

My wife's 3-4 years old Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 laptop failed. The power pack is shut down when it is plugged into the power socket, but otherwise works ok. I opened the laptop and found dried gunk and brown deposits and stains around a partly destroyed SMD. I cleaned most the mess, as shown here, reassembled it but the fault remained. Tomorrow, Monday, I'll contact Dell Australia about parts, boards and new laptops. November 2015.

Powerhouse Museum Sydney, taken December 2006. This was the first type of computer I had a play on, at 16 yo. Sadly I wasn't very interested in it at the time. Where my Dad worked at CSIRO in the 60s & 70s needed a computer but didn't have a budget. They bought two NE's at disposal price on petty cash and built one working machine. After it was replaced they donated it to the Power House Museum.
