Cut-paper collage with acrylic paint.8 1/2" x 11 1/2"

I was really fired up when I finished this collage: it captures a battle that was going on in my psyche, is the only way I know how to explain it. Sources: background (altered) from Sherwood Forlee's Walls Notebook (from Chronicle Books: highly recommended!); matchbox cover from WackyStuff; lion & hand w/ roses from 1887 & 1912 paintings by John William Waterhouse; green baton from Marvel Comics postcard (cover of Mighty Thor ). The handwritten symbols are John Dee's Monas Hieroglyphica & 4 letters from an alchemy treatise.

Sources: background is detail of photo by Wolfgang Tillmans (2003), clipped from Taschen 2009 Christmas catalog; moth wings by Maria Sibylla Merian (also from ad in Taschen catalog), a way cool woman who traveled to Dutch Guiana in 1699 to do entomology research proving, for the 1st time, the phases of metamorphosis from caterpillar to moth/butterfly; hand w/ roses from postcard of a Mexican "calendar girl"; flying-fish collage is a well known Dada/surrealism image by the incomparable Max Ernst (my hero).
