Patriot Hosta flower Shot for The Sunday Challenge (camera no more than a few inches off the ground). I have never particularly liked the stalks of flowers that hosta plants produce. When viewed from above, they droop downwards. However, when viewed from below, I find that they are quite attractive. AIMG 3596

The Sunday Challenge was to use an unfamiliar camera setting. I chose the HDR setting which snapped three bracketed shots in quick succession and then aligned and combined them in camera to create only one image. I used a tripod for this to eliminate hand shake. This is straight out of the camera with no processing. CIMG 3013

I have a small garden along a path in which I have planted hostas, petunias, geraniums, azaleas and rhododendrons. AIMG_8688

View from one of the paths in Gleaner Gardens. Gleaner Gardens, North Scituate, Rhode Island is a private garden featuring over 100 species of rhododendron and azaleas. Its owners kindly open it to the public on occasion so that they can marvel in its beauty. The side area between my garage and my neighbor's fence used to be a tall weed collection. After staring at it for years, I finally cut it back and planted a small garden composed primarily of variegated hostas, rhododendrons and alzaleas. I planted arborvitae to separate it from my neighbor's weed collection. Immediately after planting the arborvitae, I discovered that I was allergic to them and that they caused hives upon contact.
