Back in 2006, a tethered helium balloon ride was offered on the Boston Common. The day I went, it was rather windy which kept the balloon spinning around and affording wonderful views of the city. I had a great time leaning over the side and taking photos, but my husband did not appreciate the spinning and vowed never to ride a balloon again. ABalloon Ride Sept.2006 011

Melbourne, Australia is the second most populous city in Australia and the capital of the state of Victoria. In addition to its stunning architecture dating from the Victorian gold rush period. it has numerous creative, modern structures that grace its skyline and make a walk along the Yarra River a real treat. Massachusetts Institute of Technology's 150th Birthday celebration. MIT is one of the premier universities in the world and emphasizes scientific and technological education and research. It was founded in 1861 and turned 150 years old in 2011. Celebrations included technological events, artistic displays, a gigantic 500,000 calorie three-diminsional birthday cake in the shape of the university and fireworks over the Charles River.
