CMT weekly challenges on Sundays: This week's topic is quirky.
This is a variety of metal and glass items featuring trombones. I shot it on a white background, but there were unsightly shadows because I did not have the right lighting. I cranked up the saturation and put on a frame in Photoshop Elements and it became a much more interesting image.

When the power went out 15 minutes into the rehearsal of the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, the musicians did not give up but used stand lights, phone lights and iPads to continue playing.
When inclement weather results in an indoor rehearsal, members - all of whom have been vaccinated - sit socially distant and the rehearsal room has advanced air filtering.

The Sunday Challenge: Double Exposure
I merged two images of the Sharon Band taken at the Boston Festival of Bands in historic Faneuil Hall in Boston, Massachusetts using the double exposure feature in my camera. One was a 300 mm shot and the other was a 16 mm shot.

Hanging sculpture at the Victoria and Albert Museum
"'Breathless' is a work commissioned specially from the British artist Cornelia Parker for display in the new British Galleries. It was specifically designed to fill the oculus or open space newly created between the two floors of the Galleries in a corner. It is made of 54 defunct brass band instruments which have been squashed flat and hung from wires. They are designed to be seen from both above and below, with polished upper surfaces and tarnished undersides. the work is an attempt by the artist to explore such ideas of duality as silence/noise, upper class/lower class, and death/resurrection."

The valve system on a bass trombone increases the length of tubing through which air flows, lowering the pitch and making additional notes and optional positions possible. These valves are controlled by the thumb and third finger.
