St Mark's Campanile

St Mark's Campanile (bell tower) in Venice, Italy houses five bells. The top of the belfry is alterantely decorated with Lion of St. Mark and the female representation of Venice. On the top of the spire is a golden weathervane of the archangel Gabriel. The campanile has existed in this form since 1514. It collapsed in 1902, taking with it the caretaker's cat, and was reconstructed in 1912. AIMG_4441

St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Nice, France. Nice was popular with the Russian aristocracy in the mid-1800's due to its pleasant climate. The cathedral, was consecrated in December 1912 in memory of Nicholas Alexandrovich, Tsarevich of Russia, who died in Nice and who funded the cathedral. AIMG_2879
