I did not have to traipse into the wetlands to see these wild birds. They made their home in a park in downtown Tampa, Florida. There was a freshwater fountain, but no fish, so I suspect that they did their fishing elsewhere.

Maribou storks can grow up to 5 feet tall and weigh up to 20 pounds. They are scavengers and have grown accustomed to living near humans. They are known to eat almost anything.
This bird allowed me to get relatively close. I probably could have gotten closer but his beak and his size were deterrents.
