Magnificent Frigatebird - Curaçao.
These birds "spend days and nights on the wing, with an average ground speed of 10 km/h (6.2 mph), covering up to 223 km (139 mi) before landing. They alternately climb in thermals, to altitudes occasionally as high as 2,500 m (8,200 ft), and descend to near the sea surface."

Brown Pelican - Curaçao.
When these birds let loose, there is a very wide splatter range. Sadly, I know this from experience.

Female Anhinga flying over Cano Negro, Costa Rica. The word "anhinga" derives from the Brazilian Tupi language and means devil bird or snake bird. They are diving birds and when swimming, only their curved neck is above water - hence the nickname, "snake bird." Their feathers are not waterproof and they often perch in the sun to dry them.

Turkey vulture

Turkey vulture at Cano Negro, Costa Rica.
"The Turkey Vulture is a scavenger and feeds almost exclusively on carrion. It finds its meals using its keen vision and sense of smell, flying low enough to detect the gasses produced by the beginnings of the process of decay in dead animals.[10] In flight, it uses thermals to move through the air, flapping its wings infrequently. It roosts in large community groups. Lacking a syrinx—the vocal organ of birds—its only vocalizations are grunts or low hisses. It nests in caves, hollow trees, or thickets. Each year it generally raises two chicks, which it feeds by regurgitation. It has very few natural predators." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey_vulture

Male Dobsonfly
07 Feb 2011 |
|
Male Dobsonfly at Sarapiqui in Costa Rica. Both male and female dobsonflies possess sharp mandibles. The mandibles of an adult male dobsonfly are generally so large and have such poor leverage that they are incapable of breaking human skin During mating males show them off and use them to grab the females during copulation. Female dobsonflies, have short, powerful pincers and can inflict painful bites on humans. As larva, they have gills which allow them to live under water..

Although it is so tiny that it is dwarfed by a human hand, the tse-tse fly is formidable because it can transmit African sleeping sickness. Photographed in the Serengeti,Tanzania.
