The Madaba Map of Jerusalem (Explored)

17 Aug 2016 10 11 609
St. George Church, Madaba, Jordan "The Madaba Mosaic Map is a map of the region dating from the 6th century and preserved in the floor of the Greek Orthodox Basilica of Saint George, sometimes called the "Church of the Map". With two million pieces of colored stone, the map depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns in Palestine and the Nile Delta. The mosaic contains the earliest extant representation of Byzantine Jerusalem, labeled the "Holy City." The map provides important details about its 6th-century landmarks, with the cardo, or central colonnaded street, and the church of the Holy Sepulchre clearly visible. This map is one key in developing scholarly knowledge about the physical layout of Jerusalem after its destruction and rebuilding in 70 AD." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madaba AIMG 3798

The original image was that of a bathroom tile and suffered from lens distortion and a less than perfect white balance. It makes a much better orb. I have included the original image as a note in this image. Opera House, Sydney, Australia "Although the roof structures are commonly referred to as "shells" (as in this article), they are precast concrete panels supported by precast concrete ribs, not shells in a strictly structural sense.[12] The shells are covered in a subtle chevron pattern with 1,056,006 glossy white- and matte-cream-coloured Swedish-made tiles from Höganäs AB, a factory that generally produced stoneware tiles for the paper-mill industry. though, from a distance, the shells appear a uniform white." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_Opera_House AIMG 7824
