Alausi, Ecuador sits at an altitude of over 7677 feet (2340 meters). It is the starting station of the Nariz del Diablo, or Devil's Nose train - so named after the near vertical mountain of the same name which blocked the route. Engineers designed a series of switchbacks which allowed the train to climb nearly 2700 feet at a gradient of 1-in-18 by going forwards then backwards up a second set of tracks. tracks.

This street was plowed during the night but at least a foot of snow fell since the last plow truck came by.
The blizzard of February 8-9, 2013 dumped two feet of snow in Massachusetts with drifts even higher. It was the 5th worst storm in the history of Boston. The wind was blowing sideways for awhile and left the sides of trees and houses covered with snow.

We visited on a rainy day. The lovely pebbles arrainged so artistically in the walkway were as slippery as ice and made walking up and down the town extremely dangerous.
