The Cape du Couedic Lighthouse was built between 1906-1909 using about 2000 local stones. Fourteen ships had come to grief before the lighthouse was built. Kangaroo Island is the third largest island in Australia after Tasmania and Melville Island. Less that 4,600 people inhabit the island. The island is known for its natural beauty and wildlife.
