Besaw Island, Egypt
The inhabitants of this island are predominantly farmers or fishermen.
Sunday Challenge: facade
Although this is a very simple facade compared to the magnificent temples that we visited in Egypt, the image appealed to me as a result of its simplicity, the matching blue of the window shutters and the man's headwear and the mysterious palm print on the wall.

"Marinera is a coastal dance of Peru. Marinera is a graceful and romantic couple's dance that uses handkerchiefs as props. The dance is an elegant and stylized reenactment of a courtship, and it shows a blend of the different cultures of Peru."

The Incans created narrow terraces on the steep mountainsides from which they grew crops to feed the city. Some of the boulders were too large to move so they just built the retaining walls around them.
Machu Picchu is believed to be the estate of a 15th-century Incan emperor. It is located at an altitude of 7,970 feet (2,430 meters) in the Andes mountains of Peru.
I climbed from the top to the bottom and back to the top of these terraces, which was rather difficult at this altitude. I owe my success to Diamox (altitude sickness medicine) and a good walking stick.

The blizzard of February 8-9, 2013 dumped two feet of snow in Massachusetts with drifts even higher. I passed by this house the following day and I am happy to report that the man made it all the way to the street.

Man in Durbar Square, Kathmandu, Nepal. It is far too easy to take for granted modern means of transporting goods. Scenes like this should make those of us who have access to technology and transportation appreciate what we have.

This man kept an eye on the western tourists as we walked around the market in Chomu, India so I figured that turnabout was fair play.
