Dutch ovens have been used as cooking vessels for hundreds of years. Also called casserole dishes and cocottes in French. They are heated on top, for vegetarian dishes (potato layers with tomatoes,all kind of vegetables and feta cheese) for about 40 minutes. The oven behind on the scene in our garden kitchen is a cabin oven used in South Tyrol.
