Aqueduct

It's an old photo, scanned in from a negative, hence the poor quality.
This is the aqueduct that carries the Old Hay Brook over the railway cutting just on the Sheffield side of the Totley tunnel. The channel is made of engineering bricks and its cross-section profile is based on a cycloid curve. A very elegant and pleasing structure.
It is possible to walk across the aqueduct, keeping to the LH edge of the water, but unless the water level is really low, it is hard to get over the little weir at the far end of the channel, as the algae-covered bricks are unbelievably slippery.
Just downstream a little further, the Old Hay Brook joins the Totley Brook, and the two streams then become the River Sheaf.
