Benacre Broad at low tide

28 Jul 2015 221
Benacre Broad National Nature Reserve adjacent to the coast in north Suffolk was previously a brackish water lake separated from the North Sea by a narrow barrier of sand and shingle. Now the barrier has been once again breached by the sea, it is a salt-water lake. This is in an area of active coastal erosion (up to 7 metres per year) and currently the highest rate of retreat in the UK.

Pavey Ark and Stickle Tarn

27 Jul 2010 208
A day on the Langdale Pikes - Photo 17 The imposing crag of Pavey Ark (2288 ft) towers above Stickle Tarn. To quote AW: Pavey Ark is Langdale's biggest cliff. In an area where crags and precipices abound, here is the giant of them all, and scenically, it is the best. (Wainwright, A. 1958. A Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells: Book Three, The Central Fells , Westmorland Gazette, Kendal.) A classic favourite with climbers and scramblers. The adventurous walker may ascend the crag by the exciting route of Jack's Rake, which can be seen slanting up from right to left across the rock face.

Eight-Arch Bridge, Bosherston Lily Ponds, Pembroke…

24 Sep 2008 350
This is a view of the Eight-Arch Bridge over the eastern arm of the Bosherston Lakes or 'Lily Ponds', in south Pembrokeshire. Only seven arches are visible in this photo. The Lily Ponds were originally tidal inlets but were dammed off from the sea at Broad Haven South during the 19th century to create a branched freshwater lake.
