Midnight clouds and stars

02 Aug 2020 2 2 187
Nearly midnight in south-west Sheffield and there were some lovely altocumulus clouds drifting along, partly illuminated by a nearly full moon (out of shot to the right). The view direction is to the east-south-east. The constellation of Cassiopeia is just to the left of centre. A six-second exposure caused the clouds to blur a little bit, but the stars were sharp. Some exposure adjustment and noise reduction made using Affinity Photo software. Best viewed large to see the stars properly.

Comet Neowise from near Burbage Bridge

01 Aug 2020 5 10 151
Comet Neowise (C/2020 F3 Neowise) viewed over the Hallam Moors from near Burbage Bridge, on the moorland to the west of Sheffield. Best viewed large on black: the comet is just below the centre of the photo with its tail extending upwards. The Plough ('Big Dipper') constellation is in the top section of the photo. This was my first attempt at astrophotography. The image was constructed from 12 separate exposures of 6 seconds each, stacked together in Photoshop to remove the sensor noise generated by the high ISO setting.
