There is no road for vehicles after reaching the Monastery of Saint Catherine. We came late afternoon and stayed the night in the monastery, as the idea is to see the sun rising at Mount Sinai (Jebel Moussa) at the place where Moses was said to have been given the two tablets with the 10 Commandments. The way up is around 3 hours, even if you go up with camels.
