Loki has no idea what's in store for him, poor soul. The Kyle Line is used for many purposes, not just tourists going to Skye. His paws were clean and he was only allowed on the seat long enough to get his picture taken.
He normally lies, quite happily, under the seat.

A family outing from Plockton, to Kyle and back. One of us would not return until the following day, after leaving two surplus parts of anatomy in a jar.

Resplendent in freshly applied Saltire livery, 158708 pulls into Plockton station with 2H81, the 08:55 Inverness - Kyle. The unit was repainted at Springburn a few weeks earlier. The much-maligned Rhododendrons add a splash of seasonal colour to the rampant vegetation at the station.

This looks like an early start, waiting at Plockton for the 07:25 Kyle - Inverness. Nowadays, however, this would be considered a long lie; for the 2009 season, the early train was re-timed, and departure is now at 06:15 from Kyle, 06:28 at Plockton.

Not a train in sight, but this one of my favourite viewpoints. Behind the bare patch, at the foot of The Crags, is Duncraig Castle, which dates from the 1860s. At the time of the railway's construction, the Mathesons of Duncraig were big supporters of the line, and a private halt was provided for their use. This survives today, open to everyone now, and can be seen in the middle of the picture. The walk along the path to Duncraig takes about half an hour and must rate as one of the loveliest strolls anywhere in the country.

158702 runs into Plockton with 2H82, the 12:08 Kyle - Inverness. Repainted into Saltire livery earlier this year, 158702 also appears to have lost both it's nameplates.
If any contractors/builders view this shot, I'd be interested to hear your opinion on the repair work carried out on the platform edge.

A very busy 158701 stops at Plockton station with 2H82, the 12:08 Kyle - Inverness. A brief delay, searching for a missing wallet, caused the train to arrive in Inverness 5 minutes late, just in time to see the Glasgow connection depart from the adjacent platform - that's an "integrated passenger transport network" for you !!

47 832 departs Plockton

After picking-up the few brave souls who had walked down to Plockton & back, 1Z48 sets of back to Aberdeen. 47832 is on the rear, with 47854 providing the power at the front. By now, the train was about 15 minutes late, due to a fault with the RETB radio equipment in the front loco. Due to the RMT strike action, the railtour passed the NR test train at Strathcarron and then passed NO OTHER TRAINS en route to Aberdeen. Arrival in the Granite City was 10 minutes early.
