Five-lined skink steps out

The bane of crawling beasties, the five-lined skink, Plestiodon fasciatus , is common in much of the U.S. and southern Canada. Juveniles have bright blue tails.

And it appears to be pollen-laden. The dark purple central flower is visible at upper right.

And headed skyward. This little guy caused me to come to define "breeze" as "what happens between getting the bug in focus and pressing the shutter release." Yes, he was climbing a strand of silk.

One usually can't get very close to these, but it's a chilly morning. They;re usually seen flying away as one walks through a field in the summer. They are camouflaged right down to their eyes.

Didn't plan to shoot mostly spiders today, but that's how it turned out.
There are a lot of these hereabouts, but seldom is one well lit, so I thought I'd make the picture.
