Over-the-tOpryland

It fell to my fortune to attend a convention and trade show at Nashville's "Opryland Resort & Convention Center" in Nashville. Here is a panorama of one of the lobbies. There are several. The place is enormous -- 29th largest hotel in the world. It is also very expensive -- and pretty much all amenities cost extra, a lot extra. It's not a place I'd happily visit again. But it's like eating haggis -- once you've done it, you don't have to do it anymore.

The students will be back tomorrow, and it will be livelier then. Kind of nice this way, too.

At first I was taken with the red standpipe fittings at the left, but later I found the oddly placed door to be more -- how to put it? -- inviting . . .

At the right is what used to be the Athens Lunatic Asylum; now it's a museum. At the left are modern buildings housing the business school and related buisness assistance organizations. Infrared, of course. I like the moon -- Luna -- above the lunatic asylum. They're related. You can look it up.

The TSA gave me grief when I made this picture of this very public place. The picture has since been published. I'm pretty sure there is no danger. Jeez.

This is the sanctuary, taken in a panoramic view. Click on it to see it bigger, and then click on the icons at upper right to see it bigger still (original uploaded size is best). This is one of those pictures in which you might find it worth the trouble.

X100 panoramas are good for the wedding album, with one terrible caveat: bad things happen to those in the picture who move, as with the young woman on the right at the end of the pew who moved and got crushed for her efforts. Still, I think the picture works. This is set to make a 120-degree picture, with the camera held vertically to increase the picture's height. Here endeth the lesson.
By the way, the picture looks a lot better if you click on it to make it bigger.

A late lunch one bright spring day. The food was, as always, good, the conversation spirited.

Nice -- well, hot -- spring evening. The distortion (and the slight banding, dammit) are a result of the method (and in the case of the banding, the camera) used to make the picture. The runway is actually straight!

Hot summer's day and an R72 filter. Clear sky. What could be more fun? Making it a panorama, maybe!
